The Wiz Comes To Atlanta

 




The Wiz is a famous musical that tells the story of Dorothy and her friends as they embark on a journey through a magical land. It has been a part of True Colors Theatre Company's history since its early years. Kenny Leon, the company's Artistic Director emeritus and co-founder, directed The Wiz for four consecutive years, from 2004 to 2007. The aim was to provide a platform for young talent and help them shine on stage. This time around, The Wiz is getting a fresh makeover under the direction of Brian Jordan, Jr., who is best known for his role as "Maurice Webb" on the popular show Sistas. Brian not only directs the production but also choreographs the stunning dance sequences. With his creative vision and expertise, audiences can expect a magical experience that will captivate both young and old.

An All-Atlanta cast The Wiz features an ensemble of talented performers from Atlanta. Tina Fears, Q Parker, Fenner Eaddy, George Lovett, Latrice Pace, and Greg McKinney are some of the remarkable individuals who will bring the beloved characters to life on stage. It's incredible to see local talent taking center stage and showcasing their skills in this extraordinary production.

Honoring True Colors' Artistic Excellence: True Colors Theatre Company is celebrating its 20th anniversary season, and The Wiz is an essential part of this milestone. This production not only pays homage to the company's rich history but also highlights its commitment to excellence in Black storytelling. True Colors has a strong legacy of nurturing young talent, many of whom have gone on to achieve great success on Broadway, in movies, and in the music industry.

The magical journey of The Wiz is playing at the Southwest Arts Center in Atlanta. The production started on June 13, with the grand opening night was set for June 16. The show will continue its run until July 2, giving audiences ample opportunities to witness this extraordinary spectacle.

With Brian Jordan, Jr.'s artistic direction and an all-Atlanta cast, this production promises to be a remarkable experience for theater lovers of all ages. The True Colors Theatre Company continues to shine a spotlight on Black storytelling and the power of artistic excellence.
